introduction

Great Oak Manor is a luxury boutique hotel overlooking the Chesapeake Bay in Chestertown, Maryland – offering breathtaking views, exceptional service, and experiences focused on connection, learning, and wellness.

During my time at Wallop, I served as the primary designer on a pivotal project that concluded in February 2023, working closely with our Lead Designer to elevate the Great Oak Manor brand identity and redesign its outdated website. My focus was on creating a fresh, contemporary aesthetic while ensuring the website reflected the renewed brand identity and supported the hotel’s future goals.

The Process – Brand Identity

breathing in new life with fresh branding

After reviewing the Discovery document and understanding the essence of Great Oak Manor along with the clients’ vision for the hotel’s future, I distilled key elements into a cohesive style tile. We explored several options, ultimately selecting the tile named Radiant Warmth, which captured a perfect balance of freshness, luxury, and homeliness.

The Process – Website Redesign

modern, intuitive, and immersive – a website that elevates the brand

The redesigned Great Oak Manor website showcases the hotel’s offerings through a modern, sleek design that feels fresh, luxurious, and homely while providing intuitive navigation and an engaging user experience. Design elements from the Radiant Warmth style tile were applied throughout, complemented by interactive features such as a dynamic cursor, slow-scroll motion, and entrance animations to guide users and create an immersive experience.

As with any website, content evolves over time, so the design needed to be adaptable. We implemented a modular system with reusable components that the client could easily edit, move, and integrate across the site. This approach not only supports seamless updates but also streamlines handoff to developers, ensuring the final site remains cohesive and aligned with the original design vision.

The Result

a polished, adaptable website aligned with the brand

While I wasn’t at Wallop when the Great Oak Manor website went live, the feedback from my Lead Designer and the development team was extremely positive. They praised the refreshed branding, cohesive site design, and the seamless handoff to development, noting how efficiently the project ran and my ability to manage it with minimal support.
