Airship is a customer engagement platform that enables companies to deliver personalized messages and notifications across mobile apps, websites, SMS, and email to drive loyalty and long-term customer value.

During a broader brand refresh and website redesign, I was brought on as a Visual Design contractor through Redstamp agency to help develop a library of conceptual product visuals for Airship’s marketing site. Working alongside a small team of designers, I translated complex product concepts and marketing language into clear visual storytelling through illustrations, diagrams, and interface-driven imagery that aligned with the platform’s new brand direction. This visual system later expanded into additional assets for Airship’s marketing presentation materials.

Translate complex SaaS product concepts into clear, visually engaging storytelling for non-technical audiences

Develop a cohesive visual system that aligns with Airship’s new brand identity and supports the redesigned website experience

Turn dense marketing and technical copy into intuitive, easy-to-understand conceptual imagery

Create a flexible library of visuals that could be applied across both web pages and marketing presentation materials

The Process

decoding complex product language

The first stage of the process involved unpacking Airship’s product and translating dense marketing and technical copy into clear concepts. Much of the source material was highly abstract and SaaS-focused, so the initial challenge was identifying the core message behind each section of content before any visual exploration could begin.

To support this, I broke down copy provided by the marketing team into simplified concepts, often using AI tools to help reframe complex terminology into plain language. This allowed me to understand what each section was truly communicating at a product level, rather than getting lost in technical phrasing.

defining a visual system for a new brand language

Once the core concepts were clarified, the next step was to explore how Airship’s updated brand could be translated into a visual system for the website. Working alongside a small team of designers, we initially experimented with different approaches to imagery, requiring close feedback from the Creative Director during early iterations.

As the system began to take shape, we developed a consistent visual direction that combined lifestyle imagery with abstract UI elements, data representations, and conceptual overlays. This approach helped bridge the gap between real-world usage and the platform’s technical functionality.

The Process

designing conceptual product imagery

The primary focus of the work was creating conceptual visuals that communicated Airship’s platform capabilities in a clear and engaging way. This included diagrams, abstract system illustrations, and composited scenes that showed how users interact with personalized messaging and notifications across different channels.

Rather than illustrating literal interfaces, the visuals were designed to express ideas such as automation, customer journeys, and data-driven decision-making – in a way that felt accessible to a broad audience.

The Result

from complexity to clarity

The final outcome was a cohesive system of conceptual visuals that helped translate Airship’s complex SaaS platform into clear and engaging storytelling across key marketing pages. The imagery supported a more intuitive understanding of the product by visually reinforcing abstract concepts such as automation, personalization, and customer journeys.

In total, I created approximately 40 visuals for the website redesign, applied across key sections including Platform, Capabilities, Channels, and Industries. Following the website launch phase, the visual system was further extended into Airship’s marketing presentation materials, resulting in an additional 50 assets designed for a Master Slide Deck.
